Tomorrow I will not write my blog

Following the lead of many millions of bloggers, I will choose to not write on my blog tomorrow, in memory of the victims at Virginia Tech. But also for anyone affected by violence. Blogger Barbara mentioned this in her blog and I think this is a good idea. OK so more than anything it's symbolism (and hey, chances are I probably wouldn't write a message in my blog tomorrow anyway!) but I join the billions of peace-loving people who are against violence, and want to do all they can to discourage it, and promote peace and mutual respect towards one and all.

Being a Green Godmother

Trying to be good at green things, and trying to be good at being a godmother, are two things I love doing.

I am a Godmother to my dear dear friend's daughter. I take the role of being a godmother very, very seriously. I love her immensely. She's wonderful, and I will do all I can to make sure she's a spiritually happy and educated person.

Here is a photo of us both at her cousin's birthday party last weekend.

Here's a definition of godparent from wikipedia:

In Christianity, the godparents were counted informally responsible for ensuring that the child's religious education was carried out, and for caring for the child should he/she be orphaned. Today the latter duty is the most commonly recognized duty of a godparent, and the word "godparent" often no longer has religious overtones. The modern definition of godparent is an individual chosen by the parents to take a vested interest in raising a more complete human being.

I was then googling for Green Godmother (GreenAbby + Godmother = Green Godmother, innit?) and I found a website called www.greenfairygodmother.co.uk which is near enough I suppose....they sell ethical, environmentally sound and vegan gifts at sound prices apparently.

GreenAbby, or Blue?

A dear friend sent me a link to the New Scientist website. I was taking a quick mosey around and found an interesting little flash section all about the Oceans which surround our green and brown earth. Apparently the planet is made up of 71% water, and water is the source of all life (as is light). So perhaps I should rename myself BlueAbby..... but right now I am not feeling too down, so I will stick to being Green (not envious) Ha ha ha ha haaaaa %)

Stop Global Warming

Here's a new (American) site you can sign up to - it's a virtual global march against global warming, and shows that we all need to work together to find a solution to the problems we and previous generations have created for ourselves.

www.stopglobalwarming.org

Sign up and be part of this new community. GO GREEN! heehee :)

I was the 731,953rd person to sign up at 2200 hours on 23rd April 07 BST. Which number are you? Join and then tell me, let's see how popular this thing is....

Advertising

Well I do have to laugh. I have added google-ads onto my blog, I will let you find it if you're inspired. The facility automatically puts ads on my blog related to the things I have talked about....one of the ads is all about teeth! hahahahaha!!!! And the other is about running the Great South Run. So I guess as long as I continue to talk about the things I care about, the adverts should be relevant and shouldn't conflict with my own personal interests.

So I had better stop writing about my teeth so much, and more about my concerns regarding the environment.

Marathon

The London Marathon is taking place today. Good luck to all the runners who will pound the 26.2 miles around the streets of London. It's a hot day today so I guess many of them will be pushed to the limit.

Some interesting facts about the London Marathon:

- It was founded in 1981
On the day, it provides:
- 710,000 bottles of water
- 950 portable toilets
- 500 stretchers
- 20,900 metres of barriers
- 68 ambulances

I would like to do the London Marathon one day....but I need to feel confident enough to do this because at the moment I find 6 miles is enough of a challenge! Maybe in a couple of years....

Will you sponsor me?

If you haven't already, please do!

My run is on Sunday 6th May 07 in Edinburgh...a hilly 10km run in aid of Climb.

Check out my fundraising page for more info http://www.justgiving.com/climbabby

And the charity's website too www.climb.org.uk

I went for a small run today but not for long as my gap started throbbing (see posting below...all will become clear!) I think it needs to heal a little bit more.

Thanks folks!

Tooth Fairy

Today I had my baby tooth extracted! Bottom left, a couple behind my canine.

Somehow it has managed to survive 30 years, with some help from a few white fillings! I don't have an adult one underneath so I'm stuck with a gap unless my other teeth fancy moving around a bit. My dentist told me that apparently this tooth (E) is the most common one which doesn't have an adult underneath to replace it.

I thought you might like to see a photo of it haha!

It had to come out because it was causing gyp, and making the tooth behind it more susceptible to decay.

I will put my baby tooth under my pillow tonight, maybe the toothfairy will visit.....

Other news, with an environmental flavour:
My brother is moving to Texas with his wife in a couple of months (see their blog to the right). He found a current radioshow on Radio 4 looking at the impact of American carbon footprint v. the UK one. This show is comparing a family from Texas, with a family from Knutsford....how coincidental!

Apparently the average US citizen creates 20 tonnes of carbon per annum. The UK citizen is half that at 10 tonnes. The average Indian creates less than 1 tonne!

If you have a spare half an hour, listen to the programme. It's a three-parter. The next one is Friday 20th April at 1100 hours.

Back on the Road again...

Today I have finally recommenced my training in preparation for my run in Edinburgh on Sunday 6th May 07. I have had a break whilst I recuperate from my virus/illness. Everything pretty much seems to be back to normal fingers crossed.

I ran approx 3 miles today. I will also try to run tomorrow morning before I go off on a 'surprise' easter trip with partner. I don't really know what he has planned for us. I will just go along for the ride and see where we end up!

Series 2 of 'Extras' is being repeated on BBC1 on Sunday evenings, which gave friends and family a chance to see my 'starring role' in this comedy in the first episode a couple of weeks back. My appearance was pure fluke/chance...I went to see a pilot sitcom starring Caroline Quentin at BBC TV Centre and as we walked in there were cameras filming us. So I thought I would use all my acting training from a few years back and be as natural as possible hahahahahahha! :) I had no idea what the filming was for, didn't really mind or care either, and then promptly forgot about it.

The 'Extras' editors must have liked what they saw however, and decided to include my walk-on EXTRA role in the episode! So there I am, immortalised for 2 seconds in the genius creation of Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw myself, I won't deny. Bit of a cheek though, don't you think? The show is about people who work as extras, get paid poorly, struggle to be successful etc and the production team have the audacity to use common folk as extras, rather than PAY for extras to appear in the darned thing!

Methinks I am due a few royalties....

My dear friend James managed to find a link on YouTube so you can watch it below if you haven't already.

I appear at 05:58 if you want to fast forward.
