Run & Done!

Matthew Pinsent was supporting the run, and he gave out the prizes to the really really fast runners. Mark and I after the race
Me after the race

Queueing for the loo before the race! It took about 30 minutes before I was able to relieve myself!

Well, the run has been completed successfully.
Without too much incident either, I am pleased to say.
Marky Mark woke up in the morning and decided to do the run, even though he had done absolutely no training or preparation for it!

Arrived at Regents Park and then queued for around 30 minutes just to go to the loo! Quickly dropped bags off at the baggage area then made our way to the start line with 3000 other rainforest running enthusiasts.

It took just over one hour to complete the 6 miles (10 kilometres). 3 laps around Regents Park.
As I approached the final straight I saw Mark speed ahead of me (he'd been behind all the way, and we had a bet on as to who was going to come first between us!) So I thought 'well, there goes my chance to an evening of ultra-pampering from my loved one'.

I then saw him slow down to a walk and caught up with him....seems he'd forgotten that the finish line was further down and not where he thought (he'd thought it was where the start line was, but it was further down from there). So in the end we ran the final straight together!

I have raised a terrific sum so a big huge great gobbing thanks to everyone who sponsored me. Just think your donation has helped to save and secure a precious part of the world's rainforest. There's a tree, a frog, some creepy crawlies all living their lives in peace thanks to you supporting me to do my run.

Afterwards we collected our bags, picked up a goodybag filled with organic tea, coffee, honey and raisins and moseyed back to our digs slurping the free isotonic drink they gave us.

Well, only two weeks to go now until my big 10km run (well, it's big for me anyway!)

Yesterday in the post I received my runner's number, a sponsorship form, a green tag for my bag when storing away, plus a running chip which I think is supposed to automatically calculate my time. Not that I am competing against anyone (apart from MarkyMark!)....just finishing it will be an achievement in my book.

Anyway, running aside - I have to tell you all about the NATIONAL CLIMATE MARCH which is taking place the following week on Saturday 4th November 06. It commences with a rally outside the US embassy before making its way down to Trafalgar Square.

If you are in London you MUST attend this march! It is much more important to be part of the environmental wake-up call and groundswell of action to protect the environment, than it is to go shopping or watch the TV or whatever.

I urge you all to be there! And if you cant make it to London, then why not start your own rally/march in your local area. Now that would be worth a photo too....so do send me some if you dare!

Here's a couple of links for more information:
www.campaigncc.org and www.globalclimatecampaign.org
As you will see this forms part of an international lobbying campaign across the globe to get some serious action taken to protect our beautiful home, the earth.

The last two weeks have seen me running for 40 minutes - walk for 1 minute, run for 4 etc.
This week I plan to run 1-5 for 42 minutes.
Then the week after 1-5 for 48 minutes.
Then after that 1-6 for 49 minutes.

For my final week of training I plan to walk for 1, run for 7. I will do this for 56 minutes. That's the aim anyway!

I will get onto green issues on another posting.

I plan to see 'An Inconvenient Truth' soon as it was released a couple of weeks ago. Would have seen it already except I have just felt so busy recently!
