It's been a while since I have posted anything on my blog. Life has sort of taken over, plus I have also been getting into 'Facebook' which is quite weird and incredible....you find old friends, pupils who you studied with, former work colleagues etc. It's fascinating and mildly addictive.

Live Earth is coming this weekend I believe. So is Tour de France in London.

It's also 2 years to the day on Saturday since the 7/7 bombings in London - to which I sadly lost two colleagues from work, both of whom I trained (as part of my role), and one of whom I had a working relationship with.

Feelings of sadness and reflection come upon me around this time. And the recent terrorist attempts of violence in London and Glasgow only serve to act as another sober reminder.

A reminder of how sad and futile these vain attempts to be violent and destructive really are. I don't understand why people are so motivated by hate to want to destroy life so mindlessly and in the name of God. There is no justification, in my opinion. It truly is a waste, and breeds negativity, fear and selfishness. These are the kinds of attributes which I don't like in myself and others.

Looking back, I wonder if Martin McGuinness et al really think the IRA bombings of the 1970's and 1980's were really worth it and served much in the end.

Why don't the bombers create a laughter bomb, or something like that? A spontaneous explosion of innocent laughter, joy and happiness. Much more imaginative, creative, productive, positive and beneficial. Well, we can dream....:)

Hi Abby,
How are you ?
I'am sorry to hear that you lost co-workers in the terrorist attack 2 years ago.
Terrorists don't understand such pain or suffering ; they are only concentrated on some dark and obscure idea. They feed on their own hate, where it gets to the point that they are de-humanized.

We are living again the anxieties, since the police broke another terrorist plot in Glasgow.

Wishing you strenght.

Take care.

A laughter bomb.......now there's a great idea! Yes, how can DOCTORS who have taken the Hippocratic Oath engage in a day job in the NHS and then moonlight with plots to blow up their fellow human beings? There is absolutely no logic to this at all, nor compassion. Thank goodness all the plots failed, ensuring the perpetrators an entry in "The Book of Heroic Failures" and no success in their evil.

Let's look to the positive things in life, and aim to live joyfully, without fear. Live Earth is a great one to look forward to!

Hey, Abby, that laughter bomb is the greatest idea I've heard yet! Let's bomb them back to the Silly Age, rather than to the Stone Age? We need something like "laughing gas" to permeate the atmosphere, maybe set off an enormous laughing gas bomb high in the atmosphere so that the fumes could gradually trickle down and get the whole world laughing?

Uncontrollable Laughter
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
In 1962 there was outbreak of contagious laughter in Tanganyika. A
teacher's banal remark got a couple of children giggling, and pretty
soon the entire classroom was chuckling. Those in adjacent classrooms
heard laughter through the walls, and began to laugh, and pretty soon
everyone-pupils and teachers-were laughing uncontrollably,

Then the children went home laughing and when their parents saw them,
they, too, were infected. "Next day, they were all laughing so hard
that nobody was able to go to school or work," Holden said. "The
entire village was infected

What began as an isolated fit of laughter (and sometimes crying) in a
group of 12- to 18-year-old schoolgirls rapidly rose to epidemic
proportions. Contagious laughter propagated from one individual to the
next, eventually it spread to neighbouring villages infecting adjacent
communities.

Virtually none of them had a clue why they were laughing.

The epidemic was so severe that it required the closing of schools. It
lasted for six months.

The Tanganyikan laughter epidemic is a dramatic example of the
infectious power of laughter
