World Environment Day...TODAY!

Today is World Environment Day.

To be honest, I haven't really done anything particularly 'special' or different to mark the occasion.

So this evening I will keep the lights switched off for as long as possible, eat UK-grown veggies, switch my PC off straight after writing this entry, use little water when washing up and brushing my teeth...erm, I know, not very imaginative, but then it really is small, everyday, mundane things we can all do to reduce our negative impact on the climate which does help. Particularly if EVERYONE does it. I think successful green-conscious living is developing good practices which just become normal. This takes determination and continued practice, but after a while it should become as natural (one hopes) as brushing one's teeth every morning and evening...ie you dont even really 'think' about it. It's just part of your routine. Getting past the hurdle of unfamiliarity/newness is a big step. After I think that it gets a lot easier....?

I see blogfriends Barbara and my Mum have celebrated World Environment Day in their own unique way on their blog! Check out their entries if you haven't already....

Happy World Environment Day to you!

Perhaps we should campaign to make this day a Global Holiday....and everyone just chills at home, doesn't travel anywhere, do much, or consume buckets of energy. A day of global respite. Collective chilling. No wars, no production, no consumption. Just being with ourselves, our families and our immediate environment. A big crazy unachievable idea....?!

Have fun

Yes - nice idea to have a chill out, low energy-consumption day. I did my bit yesterday at the supermarket by removing my excessively packaged vegetable purchases from their plastic trays & returning them to the customer services desk. I said I was doing so because it was World Environment Day. They'll get used to me doing this as I'm planning to do it every time now I'm landed with packaging I don't want and I'll ask for it to be returned to head office. Maybe they'll eventually get the message.

Hi Abby,
Yes, a global holiday :) I would not have a hard time doing that, although the elctricity part is hard for me. I'am PC addicted, as most bloggers are. But, it is possible to cut down, and some days I do just that.
Thanks for your link to my blog.

Take care.
